01What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website. Related technologies include local storage, pixels and scripts. They can be "first-party" (set by the site you are visiting) or "third-party" (set by another domain), and "session" (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent" (retained for a defined period).
02Our Approach: Privacy by Design
POPIA's principle of minimality (section 10) and the GDPR's data-minimisation principle (Article 5(1)(c)) require that processing be adequate, relevant and not excessive. We apply that standard to our own website:
This website sets no advertising, analytics or social-media tracking cookies. We do not profile visitors, we do not run third-party ad or analytics scripts, and we do not deploy a consent banner — because there is nothing requiring consent to deploy. If that ever changes, this Policy will be updated before the change takes effect and consent will be obtained where required.
03What Actually Runs on This Site
For full transparency, the website uses the following external services, none of which set cookies on this site as configured:
| Service | Provider | Purpose | Data involved | Cookies set |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Fonts | Google LLC (US) | Delivery of the Cormorant Garamond and DM Sans typefaces | Your IP address and browser user-agent are technically transmitted to Google's servers when font files are requested | None |
| Formspree | Formspree Inc. (US) | Secure processing of our contact form submissions | Only the information you choose to submit in the form, transmitted when you press "Submit" | None on this site |
| WhatsApp link | Meta Platforms (wa.me) | Optional click-to-chat button | Nothing is transmitted unless you click the button, which opens WhatsApp under Meta's own terms and privacy policy | None on this site |
Our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived server logs (IP address, request time, requested page) for security and capacity purposes. These are not used to identify or profile visitors.
04Strictly Necessary Processing
Any technical storage that is strictly necessary for the website to function or that you explicitly request (for example, remembering that you dismissed a notice) does not require consent under applicable law. We currently use no such storage; should any be introduced, it will be listed in the table above with its name, purpose and lifespan.
05Third-Party Privacy Policies
- Google Fonts: policies.google.com/privacy
- Formspree: formspree.io/legal/privacy-policy
- WhatsApp: whatsapp.com/legal/privacy-policy
Because these providers are located outside South Africa, any transmission to them constitutes a cross-border transfer addressed in section 10 of our Privacy Policy.
06Controlling Cookies in Your Browser
Even though this site sets no tracking cookies, you can control cookies globally through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Blocking all cookies will not impair the functioning of this website.
07Changes to This Policy
If we introduce any cookie or similar technology, this Policy will be revised in advance, the table in section 3 will be updated, and — where the cookie is not strictly necessary — consent will be requested before it is set. The effective date above reflects the latest revision.
